>>2630925I was made curious about this and looked around a bit and found from
http://gochiusa.wikia.com/wiki/Sharo_Kirima#Trivia the following:
>There is some disagreement as to the romanization of her name. Koi and the anime and its promotional materials use Syaro, but subtitles use the romanization Sharo.I went and had a look and saw that the kana for her name as given in the OP, is シャロ, which normally would get translated as "Sharo".
The confusion I think stem from how to romanize the diphthong formed with シ(shi) and ャ(ya). When you compare how two similar diphthongs like シャ(sha) and ニャ(nya) gets romanized, it seems that the "sya" in Syaro is technically a romanization spelling mistake, since even the Japanese would pronounce it with an "sh", and technically syaro doesn't have an "sh" sound from an English perspective, just something that can sound very similar "si-ya", a sound I'm pretty sure doesn't exist in formal Japanese.
So there you have it, it is supposed to be Sharo.
It doesn't matter from the Japanese perspective as the two romanizations produces exactly the same pronunciation and would probably both be equally understandable.
From the English perspective sha and sya have slightly different pronunciations, but since the Japanese always pronounce it sha anyway, it makes no sense to keep writing syaro.
But, having said all that, it really isn't a big deal which one you end up using, both should be fine in nearly every context you would encounter.
Also hi, new GochiUsa fan here, reporting in for duty.
