By now having Homura die would make for a bad end unlike the bittersweet trend up until now, and a bad end after all those years for this franchise would be just about the worst possible idea from Magica Quartet.

I think most people go for that ending because it's a decent place holder ending if you're optimistic. Wraith Arc fleshing out the purpose of the wraiths and their behavior along with the Swan Lake stuff seemed to make this ending more likely as well. I personally think they depart AS the LoC or new concept rather than Homura being taken into it. The LoC for meguca in the InuCurry Rebellion book is describe as just falling asleep forever and WA shows Madoka fighting her lonely, eternal battle. Homura's focus in the concept movie is on Madoka loneliness and separation, so there's absolutely no way Homu would ever just go with Madoka so she can rest while Madoka spends eternity carrying that burden. Likewise, Madoka wouldn't be happy knowing Homura is carrying that burden, even if Homura is able to control the LoC herself with the earring cuff. If you can't prevent the one you love from suffering, may as well suffer together to lighten the load.

That said, I get what you were saying, and also I could well be wrong about it too. I sure hope for a happy ending with Homura alive and well like the other anon said, though.

He took some time and filled in what is legible. Basically it's going to a plot revolving around 3 intertwinned fates, with Homura, Madoka, and a mysterious and emotionless 3rd side (Kyubey??) who will serve as a plot device to bring about conflict. Madoka wants Homura to stop lying to her and get along while 3rd side is actively lying to turn Madoka against Homura while also claiming they're there to save Madoka.

It did take Homura a moment to think back and reflect on the flashback scene (the one set at school in episode 1) after hearing about Madoka's feelings in Rebellion to realize how much Madoka had suffered due to her wish, despite her denying it in the space hug scene.
That said, the uproar through all these years about the flower field scene seems to be more of an attention span problem from viewers who failed to catch on the realization by Homura that Madoka hadn't been so daijoubu after all. Unlike the 'last minute change' rumour, that one is 100% fabrication, most likely originated from viewers dissatisfied with the ending and then perpetuated up until today by I'm guessing confirmation bias from when they read the interviews and then parrot it on their blogs or wherever else.
