It's fascinating to me to look at all these and see how some of them are technically good drawings and some of them are iffy. Yet the main thing, far above all else, is whether the artist managed to capture that extremely distinct and vital Haruhi essence. Some of the more polished work doesn't have the SOS spirit and some of the really meh art embodies her persona unmistakably. No character, ever, has a more singular and indescribable image or feel and not a lot of people really "get" it. There are not many borderline cases, either. You have summoned Haruhi or you have not.
