There is a longstanding tradition of making mechanical dolls in Japan, and dolls do gain a soul I think, they get funerals so I base it on that. If Sensei is mechanical, instead of electrical, since we never get confirmed that he is specifically an electrical robot, just a tool of the humans, he could still have gotten a soul over time.
