You don't gain anything by going on the romantic route of any girl that you wouldn't get with any other girl except cringy flavor dialogue. At least in P3 a romance was the only way to get to max SL with the girls, but even that was removed. Now the only reason is so that you can pretend to date a teenage japanese schoolgirl for like two minutes before the dialogue ends and the game moves on as if that never happened. Even the girls' dialogues in other parts of the game not pertaining to the romance remain unchanged. So, romancing a girl, any fucking girl, unlocks a trophy in P4G and P5. That's it.
It's basically the card system from The Witcher, but with more flavor text. How anyone can take these interactions seriously and be emotionally invested in them is beyond me.
