>>3288862While I agree on principle, the execution is terrible. Her characterization is more broad than deep, which results in certain traits not really being harmonized well. I'll put some examples below, along with some of the bad storytelling choices other than the main one, which is outsourcing characterization to a prequel.
For example on her appearance. Being smug, trolling and "dommy" which was the original LN one and remains the impression she gives to most in-universe fits her appearance perfectly. The later attempt at gap-moe by making her secretly a tsundere dork with sub-par social skills could have worked, but leaves some nasty implications and undermines some of other traits. For example, with the little we learn about her in the VN, her few tsundere moments can easily be interpreted as mere acting and no reason is given to assume otherwise. And if she is capable of keeping that smug facade up 24/7, why would one assume that that is not her default personality? Sure if you know BiS you can see the continuity and how she went from one to the other and back again, but would you give her the benefit of the doubt without that knowledge? And even then, if deep down she remains the same as in the 70s, doesn't that mean that she has been barely affected by her years as a Stasi? What does that say about her Psyche, when she is barely affected by years of killing people?
If she's intelligent and charismatic, how come no one is shown following her willingly? How come she has no positive relationships with anyone, apart from one old friend would gladly kill her in a slightly different scenario? The werewolves show little investment in her plan or personal loyalty to her. They seem to follow her more out of fear or duty, and the one counterexample is a couple barely memorable lines by a minor character. Would it have been hard to give her some banter with her subordinates or some friendly comments?
