This is why I think it's the oedipal father complex, where the father wants to raise the child so that the bond between the two is psycho-sexual (I'm not 100 percent sure on the actual phrasing). The difference is that anime characters are perfect, so that "oedipal raising" doesn't need to happen and the only thing that matters is the oedipal child, like a real obsession.
