>>3450071Ok, so I just watched it. It was pretty good, I'd say an 8/10. It had all the classic Yonebayashi tropes:
>adapted from a 1960's British young adult book>British countryside setting>preteen girl protagonist with low self esteem in the beginning of the movie>major revelation through flashback about a character towards the end of the movieI really like the bit in the beginning and the magic seemed inventive. The aesthetics of Endor College remind me of Luna Nova in LWA but reimagined with a heavy dose of shrooms. It was almost spot-on to Ghibli imo. It wasn't quite as well animated (granted, I doubt it had a budget the size of a Ghibli movie) but it was very, very close. There were definitely a few throwbacks to Miyazaki, like the scene of her lying on her back in the grass at the beginning. Almost all the faces were spot-on to the Ghibli art style as well. Very nice.
