Art doesn't expire, especially for an anime like Lain because it seems to be becoming more relevant these days. Discussions still occur about the show, as well as more fanart. It's nice and comfy to keep the show alive, despite it only being so few episodes and from being so long ago, which makes it even more impressive and unique.
