The computer as a whole looks old-style, but the case looks like a rack-mount server chassis modified to take standard PC components to me, with a six-slot drive bay expansion up top. You have a motherboard & 20+4 pin PSU cable on the floor, there's a PCI extender cable & a main power connector hanging out the back, your actual PSU is in the back chassis, your expansion slot inserts are right next to where she's working, your native hard drive bay with an auxiliary fan are in the front; it's all designed mindfully as an ACTUAL computer.
You wouldn't typically need to gut so many things out of a computer to make some sort of upgrade, so I think she's replacing the motherboard with a new one, which is entirely appropriate since her goal is to be able to support a new-generation processing unit.
