In her case she worships magic and lineage (probably to somehow feel connected to her deceased father), while those are exactly the things that made Sakura suffer so much. I believe they were going to release a drama CD where they talk about that, right?
Regardless, they both seem to be willing to reconnect by the end of the story. Before any of that, they were just little girls who loved each other without a care in the world. Even if they can barely remember that time, the bond is still present.
