>>3969981I'll bite. Lain was one of the first anime I got into. I remember picking up the DVDs on sale at Suncoast because I liked that the girl looked like me, and my mom just figured it's a cartoon, gotta be for kids. Anyway, I was a kid so I didn't get fucking anything my first watch other than it was weird and violent and mysterious but cool. I rewatched the series a lot as I got older, and I feel like each rewatch I find something new to appreciate. I think one of the most amazing things for me is how it really nailed what it means (or meant rather) to have an online presence. You know everyone, they know you, you're someone, and then you unplug the PC and back you are to being a wallflower. You also get people who completely lose their grip on reality because they're so enamored with the digital world, and then again, are they so wrong to do that? Which world really matters most at the end of the day? It was part of the plot but also kind of ahead of its time as just a general allegory on our own lives. The general plot is also sick as fuck once you get it, but I will admit that getting it absolutely takes a few watches.
If you've got some time to kill I really recommend giving it another try anon. I think the people who love Lain genuinely love Lain because some part of the show just clicked with them, and it's not every series that has the capability of doing that. Sorry for the blog.
