I honestly don't even think monster girls are especially hot, just really cute and interesting + possibility for some really unique designs. I guess that doesn't bring in the money though.
Also check out out demi-chan wa kataritai if you haven't already, though the girls are pretty close to human rather than monster in appearances for the most part.
