Plus, isn't there something in Evangelion where they've got a little bit of a Children of Men situation happening because the Room of Guf is empty and so there's no more souls to populate the earth? So, Asuka having a baby, even if it's at 14, gets a "What, maybe we're wrong in the best possible way and humanity still has a chance?" over anything else.
