They should've allowed her to apologize for pushing Shinji away, establishing the whole "take responsibility" theme that she wanted Shinji to embrace himself.

This is stupid to be mad about because >Rebuilds, but you'd think that since the controlling idea with these two is them not being able to connect to each other, that this iteration they'd be able to do just that by working towards it, but I guess there's less worthless CG fights that way and not enough screentime of Gendo moaning over committing omnicide for his dead wife.
Not even talking about the AsuShin angle, it's just that these two literally represent the message of EoE, and of all things they should've been able to connect better since this movie likes to "one-up" the important parts of EoE.
