Animals (once you get to know them) are easier to read then people, and a bit simpler in their emotions, so placing animal-like traits on a person makes them "safer" to interact with. So, from a psychological standpoint, I think it's healthy as long as it doesn't become a crutch you use instead of interacting with people. I think that's pretty clear.
