Any time you move the related bones or included vertices, this can be redone to update the values (but I think you might need to switch back to BDEF first) or not (because there's an off chance it might work better).
I don't recommend using SDEF for hip joints though. I was using it up to a year ago, but it heavily limited the extent of jiggle I could do, complicated weighing, and stretched things such as hotpants in a grotesque manner. Knees, ankles, wrists, fingers, elbows. Maybe hair, despite no real point in it. BDEF4 is better or sufficient for other applications, particularly for any part that you need to dress.
