Max did it because Wendy and Danny was making fun of him for believing that they are in an unofficial spin-off of a TV show about that Hicktown across from them ran by people on an anonymous message board.
* note this doesn't make Danny a meta entity. Danny is only aware ( other than the ratings and ravings of Max that he takes a bit more seriously now) that every time they leave the fourth grade when they get back from summer break they enter the fourth grade again. also everything that happened in the previous years all collectively happened last year or the year before to them. the last thing he knows about this is that he was probably born around 1989 and his sister 1986 but every year that is pushed up to match the current year. he still perceives time just like how everyone else perceives it he just knows that it's happening and sometimes he forgets that it's even happening.
