before he bought the airline, everyone was expecting them to replace their aging 747-131s with 747-400s and replace their L-1011s with 767s and a330s; but when carl got in, none of that happened, and he set up the idea of using their old planes for as long as possible with as little maintenance as possible (indirectly causing flight 800 imho), and then he had the airline do nothing business wise until he was told to fuck off in 89. by the time he did finally fuck off, two things happened; one: they had no money to replace old 741s with 744s, so they had to settle with 762s even though the 747 was a backbone of their fleet, which forced them to focus on domestic operations. two; carl left on the condition that he could get as many flights as he wanted from anywhere they served for 55 cents each, which he then used to set up a website and sell for normal prices, while none of the money went to TWA, so that meant that even though TWA should have been profitable given the numbers they were pulling in, a good chunk of that money never went to TWA.
TL:DR, carl fucked them over when he didnt allow the replacement of their 741s with 744s and L-1011s and 727s with 767s, 757s and A330s, then fucked them over again when he pretty much used a bad deal to steal revenue from them.
