I spent 3 nights in the German Black Forest last week. For this trip I made the switch from my knobby tyres to the famous Schwalbe Marathon Mondial (26x2.0). 0 regrets, I'm very happy with them. They held up fine on all kinds of terrain and were a bless on the asphalt (which I was riding on for most of the trip) compared to the knobbies.
They went through hell on the last day descent on rocky and rooty road and worked good. No punctures, which is not a surprise since I know these tyres are known to be extremely robust both in terms of punctures and longevity, so I'm happy to know these things will last for a ton of trips (they're known to last for 20, 30k+ kilometers...).
I love the smell of brand new tyres right out of the box.
