Since Russian airspace was closed to European carriers, Finnish Helsinki-Tokyo route has to take the roundabout path.
AY74 NRT to HEL goes over Bering Strait
AY73 HEL to NRT goes over China (except the last 2 flights, which went over Bering Strait)
Is Earth's rotation really that significant to prefer 500 mi longer route over China when going from HEL to NRT? Why wouldn't all flights take the shorter northern route?
