>>1964933I've done various rail car restoration (1880s to about 1960s) projects and even the "simple" ones end up costing an arm and a leg. Storage and transportation isn't cheap either, and god forbid you need to restore the interior of a furnished car. Reupholstering seats, redoing decorative woodwork, etc, etc. Even if you can get parts cheap the labor adds up, even with volunteer labor as some things can't be trusted to volunteers no matter how willing they are to donate their time.
I'm still having a headache over getting a pair of trucks refurbished at somewhere around $75,000 each.
I digress, but suffice it to say, it's not just storage and transit unless you get a car in mint condition (basically doesn't happen).
