How hard would it be to develop a 2 or 3 cylinder Atkinson-Cycle engine that burns Jet A or Jet A1?
Asking because I'm brainstorming a concept for a 5-seat FAA certified plug-in-hybrid electric plane, aiming for roughly Cessna 182 performance. The engine does not turn the propeller but serves to recharge the batteries in flight as a range extender; I imagined it being mounted transversely behind the motor & propeller gearbox. The battery packs would be in the wings and ideally should provide up to 3 hours of electric-only flight. The plane would also be compatible with electric car charging infrastructure on the ground, and additionally have solar panels on the upward wing and tail surfaces.
