It's also one of those tools where you can get the absolutely chinkiest version of it and there's no downside because it's so simple and it's not really doing anything.
If you aren't a retard you can apply the same force with diy stuff. Apply it wrong though and you'll kill the quick link. Some people will say use regular pliers but they kinda slip up. Imo you want a metal coat hanger.
If you're replacing the chain you will need a chain tool to re-size the new chain even if it has a quick link.
