Haven't posted or rode for a month. Lingering left foot injury.
I'll take a pic of that Miyata 610 next time it's sunny.
But you know what I saw yesterday?
1982 Trek 614, my size, all the bits, $120. Pretty sure that's the model/year, from the paint & components. Can't resist a cheap mid-level 'sport tourer'.
The saddle was shedding foam dust, didn't even put it in my vehicle. The only meaningful thing that's not original is the small chainring. With how the other two look, there's no way the original owner wore it out.
These Sugino AT cranks look cool, but one side of the bb has pitting, and it's some odd size. DS is ~8mm longer than NDS. The crank bolts were stupid 15mm, and I don't have one of those Campy wrenches. Another ground-down socket for the toolbox.
There's a fair deal of bad paint. Where the front brake has scratched the downtube, under the bottle cage somehow, kickstand clamp, etc. But for once my plans include a repaint, so not an issue.
This is so similar to the previous one, why get it?
One bikeforums I've seen quite a few 650b conversions, and in some past BQ the one guy's 'Frek'. (There's also a video on Youtube somewhere.) And I've wanted something like that for a while. 650b with direct-mount centerpull brakes, change up some of the cable routing, add a few other bits. That's the fate of this one.
I have some experience with brazing from work, and I've noodled about it for ages but never modified a bike frame. Having a a defined project sort of spurs me along. Long term thing, but I'll post pics as I make progress.
