how much damage do you get from stone chips in the bottom bracket area on a road bike with modern paint with clearcoat? like if you ride on roads but with stupid amounts of gravel on it in the winter like pic related. if it's just some superficial damage which can be polished out, that's fine, if it's likely to pierce through the clearcoat i would rather put a little bit of protection at least at the bottom of the downtube.
