>>1949566Valencia in the pic is actually a perfect example of the retardation in Spanish infrastructure planning:
>have beautiful and reasonably spacious terminus station with 10/10 location plus near it an additional station for HSR trains>decide to put access tracks undergroundOk so far so good it's a big city, reasonable to cover tracks a bit
>decide you want to turn terminus station into passing station with tunnel under the city>have no money to build this so over decades everything becomes temporary planning>have to enlarge HSR station because of insuficient capacity>the already provisional HSR station has to be enlarged but still provisional and meant to be torn down eventually, ie wasted resources>plan on closing the terminus station when the tunnel is built which maybe in 20 years who knows because no moneyWhy even plan something like this if you can't afford it?
>you'll end up with the same capacity problems because the underground through station will at best have the same capacity as terminus station>you'll lose the connection to the Metro because you moved the station away from its current location So you'll spend hundreds of millions of euros to turn your terminus station into a through station with the same capacity.
Why not keep the above-ground terminus and just build a smaller tunnel to be used by some trains, while those ending there can keep using the terminus? Hell, most of the tracks will already be underground anyway, so it's not like it's a bother.
Why not also keep the additional HSR station that you already have?
Why waste so much perfectly good infrastructure over some autistic fetish of putting stuff underground for no reason?
Pic related, the station that will be going to waste.
