I am more a fan of 2 wheeled recumbents. You can add an aero trunk, front fender and throw on a bottom open body sock for full enclosure and it's pretty much a velomobile, with all the advantages of 2 wheels + compactness and lightweight. Bike can be ridden naked or faired depending on the wish, so there is greater versatility.
You can also design 2 wheeled velos with 2 small landing wheels that pop out at low speeds
