>>1933575>goofy landing gearYes, the landing gear is pretty much a placeholder. Tire sizing and general dimensions were done but mechanism itself was omitted. I know it looks funny but it’s not like one can fully design an entire aircraft in very limited time. I wasn’t expected to make the landing gear mechanism, so I didn’t. Focused on other stuff.
> Do you have an intended market niche you're looking to fill or is this just for fun?It was done for a university course but I did a lot stuff that I didn’t have to do for fun.
I was assigned some basic assumptions: STOL, turboprop propulsion, high wing, 30 pax capacity. I myself added requirements to beat any similar aircraft’s STOL performance and Scaled Composites ATTT’s range (projected, it was a prototype). I’ve generally tried to make it better than any potential competitors and all the calculations seemed to prove that I succeeded. I guess the niche would be STOL operation at much better efficiency than current designs, and a few times greater range than them - omitting hopping (refueling stops) for larger distances and potentially allowing access to some even more remote areas where refueling in between isn’t possible.
In the end, this design (with all the associated projects - you’re seeing just the ‘results’ but there was all of the engineering behind it) granted me a very nice internship when my professors reviewed it - working on a pic rel prototype aircraft.
