i have 3 bikes, one is a general purpose workhorse commuter, basically an early ATB cruiser set up with slick tyres, a front rack and basket plus fenders in the winter.
The second is for Bikepacking, set up for comfort and fitted with front a rear racks etc.
My third and final bike is strictly for fun, a dirt drop beast for tearing the shit out of tracks and trails.
They are all based upon 90s 26'' rigid steel mtb's although geometrically they differ significantly and the way each bike rides and responds varies, the money and time I save by having three bikes set up for very specific roles but able to share parts is nice. It's also nice to know no matter which bike I'm out on and what it is I'm doing there isn't many surfaces or conditions I can't handle.
