>>1908041>lack of dedicated cycling infrastructure makes it more riskyOP here. I keep seeing this exact line posted on /n/ over and over, and every time I think "shut your blabber you whiny fucking bitch you're going to ruin it for everyone".
Cycling infrastructure invariably comes with restrictions while providing little of value to anyone who is physically capable. A wild west situation where nobody cares where and how you ride as long as you are not being an inconsiderate idiot is perfect. You use and abuse your vehicle-pedestrian superposition to choose your pace, take shortcuts everywhere and get from and to anywhere you want. If you are an idiot, you will die, but idiots deserve to die. Use common sense and don't inconvenience others, those are all the rules you have to follow, in wild west cycling and in life in general.
Bike lanes in particular are the devil. Cyclists of all different speed ranges, from pedestrian pace grandmas to 80 km/h totally-not-motorcycles, are forced into a space narrower than a single car lane. They never go through where you want them to go, and the moment they appear, entry into places they are routed around is more often than not not permitted anymore. Used to cut through a park on your commute? Well fuck you, you can't even walk your bike through the promenade or on the riverside anymore, leave your bike or go around.
Cycling is freedom, and freedom is absolute. With concessions come restrictions. Let the nature sort it out.
