I've seen the new F59PHs a few times on the Milwaukee North Line. Wish we could come up with a better paint scheme.

Pic related is probably the best, IMO. I guess Metra really regrets selling off the F40C fleet, as it would've ultimately been cheaper to rebuild/upgrade those than to fix all of the problems that the MP36 fleet had.

In 1974, several Chicago suburbs funded the purchase of 15 new locomotives for their local Milwaukee Road commuter service.

The EMD F40C was essentially a passenger version of the SD40, and these 15 were the only examples built.

They eventually came under ownership of Metra, and were retired in 2003-2004 with the arrival of new MP36PH locomotives.

All but 2 are believed to have been scrapped. The two survivors are currently used for parts on Metra's F40PH fleet, and are planned to be rebuilt (internally) to F59 specifications.
