There was fucking nobody on the thing. It was mid-day in late spring, though, iirc.
It was comfy but I wouldn't do it just for fun. I would take the train again, though, it was really cheap. Like six bucks or something each way. IIRC a monthly pass is only a bit more than a bus pass, though you can't use the train pass on the bus or vice versa.
I've been on the VIA rail line between Montreal and Quebec City for work and while it was nice, definitely shell out for business class. Economy is meh. Comfy seats but there's nothing to eat or drink and it can be a long fuckin' ride. In Business, they serve you a nice meal and you get all the booze you can drink for only like 30-ish bucks more, basically the same price as an equivalent night out really. Again, was comfy, would recommend over short flights, but it's not worth it to ride for fun.
