This is one of my favorite railroad pics. It's the Santa Fe 3751, a preserved 4-8-4, taken in 1999. The story here is that the 3751 is used to run regular excursions but the operating organization has no passenger cars of its own. The locomotive is based in San Bernardino, California, and usually, passeger cars are broght to it, but in this instance, the 3751 had to travel to Los Angeles to pick up its passenger consist. Rather than have the locomotive deadhead down, the railroad had them haul a 46 car intermodal to the LA yards. Te second car is a baggage car carrying support crew and specialized equipment, such as the big air driven grease guns for lubing the driver and valve gear bearings.
