I'd say zoning laws are fine if done right, planning guidelines make sense compared to spontaneous construction, living in slums is pitiful, not something to romanticize... it sounds like "eat the bugs" type propaganda lol. I mean, slums aren't renowned for dealing with pollution/waste nicely, or safety, or quality of life, or anything. if the idea is that humans should regress to acting like slime molds, I mean... that's interesting
There are some aspects of "slum" development that might be worth learning from, but to suggest we should encourage shantytowns and whatever, sounds like a mess in slow motion, then you end up with the Kowloon Walled City or something
