"Trail has gone up since the 1950s as tires have become narrower. With a narrow tire and a light wheel, you need more trail to make up for the lacking stabilizing force of the tire (“pneumatic trail”) and wheel (gyroscopic stability). Most older racing bikes would be considered low-trail today. When I measured the bikes for our book The Competition Bicycle, I found that Fausto Coppi (1949) rode a bike with about 31 mm trail. Magni (1949) had 37 mm trail. By 1965, a Cinelli Supercorsa had 45 mm trail. Eddy Merckx’ (1974) had 51 mm trail. Hampsten’s Landshark (1988) had 57 mm trail. During this time, tire sizes went from about 30 mm to 20 mm… Of course, there were many outliers in this evolution, but the general trend is clear."

great input. while I runned 2x, I used to overshorten the chain - longcage on my HC HT hasnt dropped chain once - ok it was once.

24/36 x 11-34 with 2.35" nothing more I can ask,

your saddle look too cheap for that Mondy - pro tip, ditch the meme tube tapped to frame and put it in saddle bag (more protection - this way rocks and debree will make you carry a leaky tube). Also are those 175mm cranks? and why?

many people thing longer WB is bad, but in reality its helps dramaticly at mtb descending and it doesnt even feel less playfull. Longer WB stabilises the bike (together with wider bars and short stem) and the rear wheel is less prone to washing out for that reason, you can "attact the trail" insted of going in between it so to say.

bike geometry is a dark art and neo-mtb geometry deserves a Nobel prize, but carbon and many other meme trends in mtb still suck.

after riding some road descents on my first proper roadbike I was so pleasantly surprise how securly you can countersteer while on slacker mtb your only option was braking if you miss the apex.

I assume you have a more olders style geometry mtb with a steep HA? mtb handling doesnt depend so much on countersteering since you often use bents or drifting. countersteering on sharp road corners feels absolutly horrible on a modern geometry mtb.
