>>1204357A game changer is the Pedaling Innovations Catalyst flat pedal:
https://pedalinginnovations.com/buy-your-pedals/ Most pedals are too small to support both sides of the arch of your feet leaving you always unstable, uncomfortable and in an inefficient position on the bike. Catalysts are the biggest flat pedals so you always feel well supported and balanced. Dimensions:
A: Length – 5.6/ 143 mm
Width – 3.75/ 95 mm
Thickness – .6/ 16 mm
Video presentation explaining the science behind the Catalyst pedal which allows a more optimal mid-foot position instead of the idiot ball of the foot position that the Fred industry touts:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ui6p54f8XeMSee the pic to compare the size of the Catalyst pedal to the pair of MKS Custom Nuevo Wide Pedal it replaced! Just one Catalyst Pedal is the size of the pair I had on! I didn't realize it but before I was always slightly off balance on the bike. Cataylst pedals are a game changer and I will never go back. After one ride, I bought two additional pairs for my other bikes because I cannot go back to puny platform pedals.
Another game changer is dropper seat posts for mtb's, they are amazing. I remember asking about them at a fred store and they said they cost about $300-400 and I dismissed them. Till I demo'd a few higher end bikes with dropper posts and once you try them you won't want to go back. It is worth the extra grams and costs because customizing your seat post on the fly for uphill or downhill allows so much added comfort, stability and efficiency. My current mtb doesn't have a dropper, but if I ever get a new one, a bike without a dropper post won't be considered.
