It really is a piece of crap, probably made in China, Walmart bike. No-name components of questionable quality. The wheelset is built on single-wall alloy rims, which is probably the biggest weakness of all. I wouldn't trust the thing any farther than I could chuck it.
Frankly the fact that it's a Walmart bike is enough by itself to disqualify it, but the details are it's not made to last.
Save up several hundred more and go hunting on Craigslist for a used bike with name-brand components and a decent wheelset. You'll be much happier in the long run.
