This, sort of. At least I was looking forward to driving and then realized it's really nothing special, and then I realized how wasteful it actually is.

Maybe we'll figure out mass supply of electric cars or hydrogen fuel cell cars or synthetic fuels one day, but even then we still need to figure out more efficient car infrastructure and in the latter case still worry about localized air quality. Cars aren't a catastrophe in only one regard, but many.

That isn't good or bad, it just is. When I'm driving, I'm more accountable than when cycling.
I never had to pay any kind of ticket or get into any kind of trouble or talk to any fucking pig (After I was about 20, anyway, cops always tried to stop my bike and demand I show them my ID to prove I was over 18 at night. Never showed them) until I had a car.

Obviously, I'm in favor of licenses. In fact, it needs to be a lot harder to get one.
But freedom IS limited in a car compared to a bike.

Why should I buy one?
It sucks as a commuter compared to multi-mode commuting, it sucks as tracktoy, it has less range than my roadbike and can't even do normal highway speeds of 160-200 km/h.

Looking for an MR2 W3 currently, but not as a commuter, mainly as a fun car.

You don't, you need other people to fix it. Also bicycles are only just now catching up to car tire technology with tubeless tires, and I imagine it only makes fixing them far harder. I'm gonna be tubular for life.

I know a guy who uses a smart for his daily driver for years. Thing has run like 300k miles, only had like 1 engine swap. Thing is great fun to drive because they're so nimble. Feels like you are in a pod on wheels. They can be great little cars. Al though a bit expensive for their money. Might go for a daihatus cuore instead.

You can ghetto patch a puncture in a car tire with rubber cement, but it isn't exactly highway safe. Also, that goop shit kinda works, it'll turn a puncture into a slow leak, which isn't a big deal. If you get a sidewall puncture though, even a tiny one, the tire's just 100% fucked

as a general rule if it breaks off easy it isn't a big deal, you didn't need that bit anyway.

But yeah cars are a pain in the ass to maintain, the only reason people think they're easy is because they're paying someone else a fortune to do it for them.

I wouldn't say that bicycle tires are jut catching up, inner tubes have their advantages over tubeless.
For example they hold the tire on the rim a little stronger and so called "burps" can't realy happen.
Bicycle tires also tend to have more TPI and use better materials for their carcasses.
Plus if we compare rolling resistance, roadbike tires win by a huge margin.
The popular GP4000S2 for example has a CRR of only 0,00347 while car tires tend to have a CRR of 0,01-0,02.

The benefits and comfort of a small car greatly outweighs all the mechanical and electric issues that may arrive every once a while. You learn to become more practical with repairs yourself over time if you aren't a 9 to 5 wagecuck. That being said, thebiggest downside of cars are the costs. But a small car and less driving in general can save a lot, while still allowing you a tool of personal freedom when you need it.

It isn't that I can't afford a car, I could buy a nice one easily. I just don't see any reason to buy one, I wouldn't drive it if I bought one, except maybe once a month or every other month, and I can just take an uber or rent a car then. Even just buying one, dealing with registration, insurance, finding a halfway decent parking spot to rent and all that other shit would take me way more time than it would be worth
