Why would you want to? Old cars often ran off steam or had small engines on the underbody to produce electricity/climate control. Undoubtedly some or all of them used asbestos in them. A modern car will be setup for HEP and have amenities passengers expect.

More than you can afford. If you’re serious you can check out what people with private cars have done or some of those cruise trains that go through the Canadian Rockies.
I’ve heard Amtrak has gotten real douchy about hauling private cars. I always understood you paid a fee per mile or something but I’ve heard they made it a lot more difficult.

Honestly why not design an inter-city high speed train that's visually modeled on classic streamliners? Corrugated metal body, locomotive sporting a bulldog nose or even spherical shape of the N&W J-class and NYC Hudsons, dome cars to serve as 1st Class accommodations, and a paint job that isn't a fucking abomination.
