Learning flight systems via sim

No.1457185 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Absolute flightsim newfag here - to what extent can the new Microsoft Flight Simulator be used to familiarize oneself with actual plane cockpits and flight systems? Will EVERY switch in their Airbus/Boeing cockpits be present as found in their real counterparts? And even if every switch is present (and operable), would there be in-game assistance to describe the function of each switch and when it's normally used? Does FSX come close to that level of realism/education? Is DCS World my best bet for getting that kind of experience? (Though I'm more interested in commercial/hobby aviation than military.) I want a sim to teach me about using bleed air, APUs, etc.
