I have this old Peugeot and the seat clamp pin is completely stripped out, I’m left with no real option but to drill it out.

How does the clamp on these things work? It sits inside the frame and what I believe is this M5 bolt tightens it, but I don’t know. Can’t find any info Googling.

It works like these. There is a slit in the back of the seat tube, screwing the bolt in applies pressure on the end part of the seat tube so that it clamps the seatpost inside the tube.

All you need for a quick fix is an m5 bolt a compatible nut and a washer.
Bolt thru, washer on, nut on, tighten. I imagine you have a couple wrenches and an allen key already so have at it

The internal hex is totally rounded, no allen key will grip it. It’s either drill it or weld another fixing on.

Yeah, mine is a weird full ali push fit thing. Super light but you can feel the frame flexing, especially when you stand on the pedals.

Seems to be some sort of rare wedged bolt:

If you have a dremel you could try to cut a slit into the head of the bolt and then use a normal screwdriver to turn the bolt.

Because Peugeot. The frame is press-fitted together, not a single weld or braze on it.

What you have is a conventional seat post binder bolt, its just the frame clamp that is weird.
If you very carefully drill out the bolt making sure not to damage the frame you can just replace it with a new one for a few dollars from your LBS.

I reckon I can drill out the bolt and save the wedges, hopefully I can get them out and run a tap through the threaded one if it gets damaged.

interdasting, i missed that, but I'm still pretty confident he can fix his problem without modifying his frame.
Although these early aluminum frames had a lot of weird stuff going on, OP would probably be better served with a new bike in the long run.

cut a slot in the head with a small chisel and a hammer or with a dremel and a cutting disk and then remove it with a flat head screw driver.

soak the bolt in penetrating liquid before you attempt to remove.
