Just bought a folding bike. My question is how do i make it lighter? It says it's 13kg i like to get it down to at least 10,11kg. I'm planning on removing the rear break, but what else? Is it easy to swap the handlebars and seatpost/seat to carbon ones?

There are titanium Brompton builds at 5.5kg, look there for inspiration. Be prepared to part hunt for weird vintage shit, niche Chinese kit and some top tier road components. I talked to someone and based on my circumstances he recommended me a fixie.
I had some walmart bmx bike as a kid but it was stolen. So i want something with similar purpose.
I plan on riding to the supermarket which isn’t very far, and if I can get work in the nearby shopping center I can ride to work. I thought about getting a cruiser board but a bike would be much better, although more expensive. Im visiting my dad for a couple months so I don’t want the top of the line stuff. Just something safe budget wise that wont get me killed.

Could be you should move the saddle a bit forward. Could be your stem is too long or your frame is too large.
Ideally your bike fit should be neutral such that you naturally end up supported by the saddle. Therefore saddle tilt should never be a fix sliding off of it.

State is fairly reputable now, and they have a variety of pretty cheap bikes that will work for you. I very mu b recommend using the freewheel side of the hub unless you're using foot retention, which you probably aren't for a slow ride to the grocery store

Well no it won't. You'll still be required to yield and at fault if you don't. Plus most intersections have cameras so it's normally quite clear what has actually happened in this case of legal action.

Plus your attitude that 'technically' there will be a law, but actual common sense and sensible rules might differ from that, is exactly the same as many cyclists attitude.
Complaining about unjust criminality doesn't require you to support or follow all laws. The question is whether you have actually been offered a just social contract.

Location is Germany, budget is maximum of 2k yuros all-in and street ready according to StVO (official policy, i.e. reflectors, bell, lights, etc).
I don't want to overspend though, I have a free ticket for public transportation and car but I also don't want cheap discount garbage.

Use will be mostly road with some off-road (light gravel/trail), like 80/20 road/off-road. Also mostly spring to fall.
Hills are a thing here so gearing is important.
Cases are commuting and day trips, the later can go off-road.

Current bike is a 10 year old mtb from highschool that is barely holding itself together.
Also kinda sceptical of dropbars(?) on street/race bikes. Speed is important but I value control and comfort more.

When I installed my pedals years ago, I didn’t use any grease on the threads. Now I’m struggling to remove them and they are probably frozen/seized. Any tips besides replacing the crank? That would be my last resort.

With a regular 15mm spanner, on those flats, you can apply a HUGE amount of force before the tool will cam out or strip anything. It's practically impossible. Not cracking? More force. Do it with a lever. Get a long piece of pipe or a pipe like thing like a bike rack over the spanner. Use your head and force. What is limiting you?

A lot of things which make roadies 'fast' are about comfort/ minimizing fatigue. Because when you truly do a lot of riding it's an extremely important performance issue. It's proven that power transfer is actually more or less the same between the two, but comfort over long distances, is not at all.

Your prices are totally ridiculous too. You can get a used pair of spds or spd-sls with good bearings for like € 20, and the shoes and cleats, new, don't have to be nearly that much either.

If your feet don't hurt. If you never think about your feet when riding. You do not need clipless. You will not benefit from it. You would need to ride more.

I love riding with platform pedals.
It's awesome being able to just step off the bike and walk around and do stuff.
I've had serious hotspot issues and foot pain doing it on longer road rides and long tours though.

With clipless the entire sole of your shoe is rigid and that's like the pedal. It's SO much better for hotspots and foot comfort over long distances. There's no pointy shit or ridges sticking into your foot.

It's also pretty nice when you're fatigued not being able to drift your feet around on the pedals and just being held in, like I invariably do with flat pedals.

Though really just apply some rapid heat to the very ends of the crank arms and immediately crank on the wrench. Aluminum expands faster than steel so it'll free up the bind in the threads.

I finally weighed my aluminium hybrid (plus rearrack, fenders, barends, lock).
It's ~14kg/30 pounds. I'm only 110 pounds.
Is that heavy for a hybrid?
Is its heaviness the reason I injured my muscles trying to learn how to bunnyhop on it?
Maybe I'll get another bike to do my leisure riding.

Why not design an entire mount on your own instead of trying to fit something to another part? injection mold and printed parts don't play well together because they need different designs to hold a load.

When I was in college, I put two bolts in a porch rafter, and hung my bike with a piece of cord. Adjustable height, simple, and it didn't matter if I got mud, etc on the porch floor. Clean up was just washing it over the edge with a bucket of water.

I got on my bike and hit the chain with my shoe (dumb). Then when I pedaled, I could hear a takatakatakataka. Looked at it after and my chain was on the smaller front cog. I just manually (as in with my hands) pulled it off and put it back on the middle front cog. Seems fine now. Everything is all good now right?

option to consider is using a stem
If the bike has a quill stem you can clamp a threadless stem on it (with a lot of shimming), and if it has a threadless stem with a large enough stack, you can replace spacers with another threadless stem.

Threadless stem is then rigid and will take 4 bolts at the other end to attach a sandwich plate (just 2 plates of metal with corresponding holes drilled, to go on either side of the basket, and clamp it with bolts). Use washers too. Wa la. Much more secure than any plastic bracket.

Which is incorrect, because there are literal actual torque recommendations from manufacturers. You usually won't damage anything by going above them, but the tighter you make them, the more of a pain they can be to get off.

I'm awful with mechanical stuff

I bought a small portable pump from Amazon that is supposed to fit both types of valves right out of the box. I wasn't able to get any air into the tires, so I kept pushing the pump further onto my Schrader valve and then all of a sudden a ton of air got released and I flattened my tires. The valve is still sticking out but I have to push it from behind with the tire to get a grasp on it. I am going to try using a different pump and see if I have any better luck. No idea how the valves work or are set up, but is it possible I pushed it too far in and punctured a tube?

It's very easy to tell that roughly by feel. Spokes should be kinda tight but not very tight. Feel a few wheels and you know.

More likely to break spokes or damage the rim. If you didn't do anything too drastic and it was alright before it shouldn't be bad now. A good thing to do if you want is to even them out some by flicking them with something metal and trying to adjust any that are a lot more ping-y or clunk-y than the rest of the spokes on the same side. It'll probably mess up the trueness so you'll have to fix that afterward.

I'd say it's a pretty decent deal. A new 2022 Kona Lanai is like $850 but this one has some tasteful upgrades namely the fork and the hydraulic brakes.

If the frame fits you and you're looking to get into MTB I'd say go for it.

the shop would have checked hanger alignment. they would have told you if it was bent. indexing happens at the shifter, so the cassette has to have the right spacing between cogs. shimano > shimano, sram > sram, campy > campy. there are plenty of exceptions, but it's easier to not mix drivetrain components if you want good indexing.

When you backpedal you're basically making the front gear the guide pulley (the part of the rear derailleur that sets the chain over the correct gear), and it probably isn't aligned with whatever gear you're on at the back. Some noise or even unwanted shifting isn't necessarily abnormal (assuming the parts are all compatible in the first place).

JoeBlow, Rennkompressor, Spesh Air Tool, are popular ones

honestly they're all quite good. The difference is gonna be how nice they feel to use (not how well they work) and whether they last for 5 years or 10 years.

There are charts. They're based on the internal rim width (distance between the internal walls of the hooks), which you can probably research or measure with the tyre off and some calipers.

In reality the charts are very conservative and you can go way past them.

If you're looking at narrower or more hardpack/road focused 27.5 tyres also look at 650b tyres. It's the same size, it's like 700c vs 29". 650b and 700c are just the gravel/road designation. So you can almost certainly run anything over 42mm in that size and get a faster more mixed surface appropriate tyre.

The downside of exceeding size charts is, going under, the sidewalls are exposed more and the tyre is more prone to damage, and going over, the tyre will squirm when you lean it hard cornering.

Depends how much maintenance you'd like to do on your own. Basic hex keys and screwdrivers will be enough to do most of what you could ever want to adjust. Flat tires are inevitably going to happen sooner or later. Changing them is easy to learn and bike shops will rape you with labor rates if you bring it to them. If your wheel is held on with nuts instead of a quick release get the right size wrench, plus tire levers and a patch kit. Don't buy the cheapest shit you can find (or any tool from walmart ever) - they're cheap enough to begin with that the good ones are only a couple bucks more.

whether it's a road bike, or a mtb, the answer is yes. Running undersize frames with long post/stem used to be common for roadies to drop weight. You could do the same thing to have a less ungainly bike.

Whether or not it's actually worth swapping your parts over to a frame, which will cost you money in consumables and is quite a lot of work, depends on if the components you currently have are any good, and also if you might not be better served with simply a different kind of bike, considering your goals of having something svelte.

Many meme bars actually don't have much rise, they're more about sweep. The point of swept bars is it allows you to run a larger frame size, which does itself get the bars higher, because it has a longer headtube. If you're not running an oversize frame, running swept bars is prone to simply cramp you. Don't go for sweep when you really want rise.

Decent flat bars, maybe with a very subtle backsweep, commonly come in 60mm and 80mm rise, which is significant. Actually it's more than you get with many types of meme bars.

Hi, what Giant or Raleigh bikes would you guys suggest that are in the entry level 6-800 range? I can get one at a deal but I don't know what. My main purpose would be commuting and exploring my suburban hell, interspersed with parks and plenty of bad roads so I think I'd want something with suspension.

Simply having bad roads means going with a rigid with wide tires. Unless you're new jersey tier or worse, where the suspension needs to engage regularly. And then you need to be in a high enough price range to afford good suspension.

All you can get from giant is shitheap hybrids. The escape, the cypress. Maybe the contend if you catch a good sale.

Modern raleigh is broken up by reigion, but you aren't getting anything but shitheap hybrids in that price range either.

My front chainrings, chain and freehub need to be replaced anyway. I can reuse my cranks. Cassette is nearly worn out as well. I might as well go for a 11 or 12 speed if I am doing all that.

It was finally above freezing temperature on a weekend today so I brought out my bike and started riding. Got about a mile down the road and started feeling some drag on my front tire and sure enough I got a small leak. Didn't have any replacement tubes on me and I know the tire itself is pretty worn so I decided to ride on it to the local bike shop. They decide I need to replace both tires and tubes for like $130 and I know I could do it with parts at about $60 but I don't really want to keep riding on the tire since it is losing air and agree.

They take the front tire off and see that my fork has a crack on the left side that I've known about for 2 years now and generally ignore. It is a bad crack, the bottom but of the metal casing is no longer connected to the top part on that side but it doesn't affect anything. This part of the casing that is damaged is just casing. The whole purpose of it is to protect the spring and suspension system in general. But they freak out and tell me that they can't work on my bike but don't worry, they have plenty of new bikes in stock for only $800 and their sister site across the street has used bikes for $400. I tell them no, leave with my still flat tire, ride the damn thing home, and buy tires, tubes, and a fucking clamp for my fork with a total price of about $70

No, it really is just a case to hold the spring inside, there is no weight that goes on that part of the fork. It is cracked because I pulled a 'dumbass goes too fast down a hill and hits a pothole' a couple years ago

Don't see /bbg/irl so why would this be dumb for $60? I'd get it for myself but it's for someone who knows very little about bikes and doesn't need that stem angle and agressive riding position.

Guy says he just needs it gone and will put some race face pedals on. Buyer is in Nashville with a ~$50 budget for a casual bike so this seems like solid option considering.

Figure out how aggressive the geo you want is. Low end should be claris with a carbon fork. Rim brakes over cheap discs.

High end, look for hydraulic disc brakes on the right fit, and everything else should fall into place.

Used is a crapshoot. You might as well peek.

Unfortunately the would be buyer was too busy to get it today so the owner said he's just going to donate it to his LBS. It was posted for 6 weeks and no one would take it, guess talking to me was the last straw. Idk if people in Nashville are too fat to ride bikes or they'll get killed instantly or the bike was fucked but something's off.

It's kind of pointless us recommending you models. This is something you should shop for in person, and availability is very random.
Most entry level bikes will be more or less the same at that price point, aside from if you're lucky enough to find a rim brake one.

If you actually have real options post em for a second opinion on spec or whatever.

If you go to a few shops, to try stuff out, it's also not a bad idea to buy the one where the salesgoons are freindly and helpful, because they can help you adjust fit and stuff in future.

Tiagra has hydraulical disc breaks.
Sora 9 speed replacement parts are really cheap and you can swap it with 9 speed mountainbike shimano parts like rear derailleur and a bigger cassette if you want.

Which is more important in terms of foot comfort during your outings, the pedal or the shoe? I have a bike I use for commuting and also cycle nearby roads and dirt paths, and occasionally I get some slight foot pain using some skating shoes or runners. Should I look into getting shoes with more rigid sole next time I'll need to get new casual shoes?

Actually a good question I've not thought about. Personally I'd go sora because 9 speed is a sweet spot between cheap parts and good enough shifting feel. It's liberating knowing all your bike parts are replaceable on the cheap at a lbs. Plus the mtb comparability is also awesome. Switching cassettes is cheap.

I usually just pour it in, but I have a lot of practice. Sometimes it can be messier if you're not careful. And I just try to get an approximate amount, no need for a measuring device. Later on, for top-offs, I'll do it through the valve though.

Sorry, that sounds really snobby. Often if you have the tire mostly on and then pour some sealant in, finish installing the tire, and inflate, it can be messy because some sealant might spill as the tire is getting fully seated. Installing the tire and seating the bead dry, then letting the air out and putting sealant in through the valve is often cleaner since the bead is already locked in place. I just meant that I've carefully done the former quite often to save time, but it does bite me in the ass sometimes.

How do you carry stuff while riding the bike, specifically groceries?

Do you put stuff in your back pack?

Ive tried holding a reusuable grocery bag over my shoulder and it was always sliding down.

Is there something i could attach to the bike that could carry my stuff? What are they called?

whats a good bike type for food delivery in the city? Must be nimble but also sturdy and reliable, able to take the impact of poorly maintained roads without spilling the food bag etc

eBike is an option, but Im thinking I coukd get a much better quality regular bike for the $1k minimum ebike cost. Most trips are only a few miles in the city also, and its pretty flat.
