I think I found a way to breathe new life into shit tyres. Hear me out on this one

>take a can of WD40
>spray it onto the tyre
>let it sit one minute
>wipe dry with a cloth
>wait 24h
>go for a brisk 10km do not corner yet, wait for the tyres to break in anew
>you now have F1 grip

I apply automotive tire shine spray to mine. I like to think it prevents weather cracking by conditioning the rubber but I have no idea if that's true.
Keeps em looking nice for a pretty long time though.

There is this old recipe kicking around some bike forums that is supposed to be able to resurrect old amber wall tyres and make them like new, mix mustn't be applied to the black part, only the tan wall.

I store my car tires in plastic tire bags, and spray them down with tire shine before storing them for the winter/summer debacle. It works wonder in keeping the rubber soft, as they don't get to dry out between seasons.

I assume you could do better for bike tires, as you get horrid grip the first few meters from the shine.
So a improvement could be to use vinyl/PVC refresher/color. It certainly works on automotive plastic carpets, even if applying is a lot of work since it needs to be wiped down.

Nah wd40 cleans the rim nicely. Yeah they squeak like shit but once the surface is cleaned via friction between the wheel and the pads you get high performance brakes. Vbrakes go from shitty speed decreases to quadratic fullstop devices

wd40 is solvent + oil
just use a solvent
isopropyl is fantastic for cleaning brake tracks because it leaves nothing behind, it's what's used for cleaning electronics, but any solvent would be better than wd40

Yes.
But on Winter Tires you are asking the deformation of the sipes and grove pattern to give you grip, not the raw grip of the rubber.
On bicycle tires, you are not heavy enough for deformation to be significant, but there is still a stark difference between city slicks vs some terrain design for how it handles on solid snow.

Tire shine in the sipes and groves doesn't last long on car tires either, as they generally get too hot from sunlight and asphalt deformation.
But if there are 2 seasons where you live, that is some 4-8 months of storage where they could dry out into dry rot, or just turn stone hard.

brake pad(s) is contaminated. scrub the disc down with 70-90% iso alcohol and a microfiber towel, then either replace the brake pads or scour them down with a superfine sandpaper, then iso alcohol (literally just replace your break pads imo). DO NOT touch any of the parts with your greasy pee-pee touchers, wear nitrile gloves.

personally, I deliberately oil my rear disk brake to use it as a "horn". nothing gets NPCs out of the road faster.

I used to do it to my motorcycle tires too and never had a problem.

They'll also crack after a while. The light solvent washes out and evaporates heavier binders that made the tire somewhat soft from factory.

Leave anything made of rubber in soapy water for some hours.
The rubber just comes back to life.
