Basically it's saying, horses bikes and pedestrians used to be able to go directly to their location, no one got in each other's way.
Trains were added and have to work around horses bikes and pedestrians only a little bit (lil wiggle).
Then cars were added and they have to work around a lil bit, and they don't take you all they way to where you need to go.
Things weren't perfect for cars but everyone got along well enough (just a lil wiggling on the train and car)
Then car's were prioritized at the cost of bikes, pedestrians, and buses DRAMATICALLY (dramatic because look how crazy the paths bikes, pedestrians and buses have to take so that cars can have the easiest path!)
