>>1825766A few years ago when I was in uni the APA president Mitchell Silver did a presentation, typical planner speak about sustainable communities etc. During the question period I asked him if his team of planners (when he worked in Raleigh, NC) factored in climate with their transit and bike lane developments. The climate down there is hot and muggy so why would anyone stand around at the bus stop sweating profusely, or bike a couple miles to work (sweating profusely) when they can just commute in their air conditioned cars in spite of all the congestion?
His response was: "well.. uhh... people who need to take transit will just do so regardless of weather because they can't afford to otherwise"
"So how does this encourage the 90% of car commuters to switch over to alternatives then?"
"uhh... next question. You there, eating the paste!"
Most planners are fake hypocrites who don't think beyond idealism and never practice what they preach.
