G.J. Arnaud wrote "The Ice Companies" after a bad trip on SNCF made him realize railroads basically own the country if the weather wipes out the roads, so he started a sci fi series where that happens.
Transpierceneige is written next. It is french artsy fartsy crap about personal goals in a linear hierarchal... blah blah blah read it.
Then Transarctica is programmed. It's about train wars in snowball earth.
Then Bong Joon Ho reads a copy of Transpierceneige cover to cover while standing in a comic book store and decides to make the movie.
Then TNT gets the rights to make a decent post-apoc drama with the same setting. It's more fun to pretend this show is the sequel to Atlas Shrugged.
