Are roads in Britain so narrow that a bicycle cannot be overtaken? I have seen the meme pics with the cyclist causing a traffic jam, but I have never had the same thing happen to me: there is always enough place for a car to pass me even if I'm riding in the lane, most of the time I ride on the side of the road, it's nice and smooth in most places.

Some of us are too poor, and some of us have a bike where the front wheel cost more than your car. I don't understand why numtots feel the need to turn class polarization into a weapon for bike advocacy considering all it will do is drive (ha ha get it) away people who might otherwise have been undecided. Appealing to hate will usually backfire if you are trying to appeal to a broad audience though it works great if you've already got your segment targeted precisely enough. And perhaps that's the idea. Numtottery and yimbyism and "bike advocacy" more often than not seem to be working as fifth columnists to undermine bikes as transportation and city life in general. Since the 80s britbongs quickly went from driving their own brand of sensibly sized compacts and hatchbacks, also having a good chunk of their commutes done by bicycle, to having a mostly European car dominated market. Cars got bloated and pigfat to appeal to middle aged women, 'concerned' mothers and the huge customer pool of insecure 'men'. Their roads stayed the same, because only shitholes bulldoze their history and environment for cars and they mostly recognized that.
Now they complain about traffic, after making driving the only safe and appealing option.

They think of cycling as a hobby, not a way to get places.

So they think that their road space is being blocked by somebody who wouldn't otherwise be there. So they think that they're one more body on the road getting in front of their car and slowing them down and adding to gridlock - and if you weren't on your bike on the roads you'd be at home and out of the way.

What they don't realize is that you'd be on the road either way, you'd just be another asshole in one more car on the road, making them take longer to get places and adding to the gridlock.

And they are absolutely right. In UK cars are like 85% of passenger miles. Bicycles are less than 1%.
One is the core transportation system society can't function without.
Another is virtue signaling hipster hobby that ocupies space of the road with no tangible results for society.

Cycling passenger miles are so miniscule (less than 1%) that addition of it to car passenger miles traffic (from like 85% to 86%) is in the statistical error range. It would be simply unnoticed.

What a stupid argument for car traffic. It'd basically turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Except the UK doesn't even have the abundant space the US have to make for a good excuse for all that car traffic and most streets are pretty narrow since they're old as fuck.

Point is that cyclists and p. transit advocates promote false image that cars transport share is small and everything is hinges on the p transit and cyclists "as more efficient". And thus we need need to support transit as everything collapses (c).

Reality is opposite. You can ban transit and cycling and extra car traffic would be just bump into road. But without car everything collapses.

Yeah I understand there are some social econimic processes that preven everybody from using car (poprfags in simple words). Just give them universal guaranteed car as welfare.
