Are new funiculars and rack railways even being built anymore? I get the impression that only gondolas and aerial trams are being built.

In Switzerland some Funiculars were rebuilt as aerials. The Lauterbrunnen-Grütschalp was rebuilt as an aerial tram. The Stanserhorn "Cabrio" aerial replaced two of three funicular sections. It must have been quite a journey up the mountain with three funicular sections.
