If for one reason or another steam locomotives were still in use for mainline revenue service, what would they look and run like? Would they still resemble classic steam locomotives? Or would they have modernized in appearance? Would they still be using cylinders with side rods? Or would they be using a different type of drive like a turbine or steam electric?
